The Women’s Health Center at Al-Ahliyya Amman University Organizes Field Visits to Senior Care Homes in Collaboration with the Hearing and Speech Center

As part of its community service initiatives, the Women’s Health Center - Faculty of Nursing at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, in collaboration with the Hearing and Speech Center led by Dr. Fadi Al-Syouti, organized a series of field visits to several senior care homes. These visits aimed to provide comprehensive and innovative health services to the elderly and conduct necessary examinations to detect health issues associated with aging. The visits included the following care homes: Darats Shama Association for Seniors in Shafa Badran, Wadi Al-Shata Senior Center in Bayader, and the Guest House for Seniors in Juwaida. Nursing students, particularly Saudi students affiliated with the Saudi Cultural Mission, actively participated in the initiative, under the framework of a cooperation agreement between the Women’s Health Center and the mission. Additionally, master's students specializing in audiology and speech therapy from the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences - Hearing and Speech Center performed advanced assessments using the latest state-of-the-art equipment, among the most accurate and advanced in the region. These assessments focused on hearing and speech evaluations for seniors, with particular attention to cases requiring further follow-up. An agreement was reached to refer elderly individuals needing additional care to the Hearing and Speech Center at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, ensuring coordination between the care homes and the center to deliver the best therapeutic services. Under the supervision of Dr. Muna Al-Nsour, the Women’s Health Center trained a group of nursing students to apply the Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination to assess seniors' cognitive states and detect potential cognitive decline. Pharmacist Hanine Al-Momani trained the students on administering the test scientifically and accurately. The successful application of the test during the visits helped identify the health and psychological needs of this demographic. At the conclusion of the visits, Mrs. Shireen Al-Momani, a representative of the Ministry of Social Development, expressed profound appreciation for Al-Ahliyya Amman University, represented by the Women’s Health Center, for their outstanding organization and coordination of such community health initiatives. She emphasized the significant impact of these efforts in enhancing the quality of life for seniors and fostering social solidarity. This initiative exemplifies the university’s innovative approach to community service, underscoring its commitment to addressing societal needs and maintaining its pioneering role in integrating education with community engagement.
