Concluding Awareness Week at AAU with a Lecture on Cybercrimes
The Deanship of Student Affairs at our AAU concluded its Awareness Week activities with a lecture on cybercrimes, held in collaboration with Al-Balqa Governorate and the Public Security Directorate/Cybercrime Unit. The event took place on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, in Nizar Qabbani Auditorium.
The lecture was attended by the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Mustafa Al-Atiyyat, Vice Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Noor Al-Dabbas, Ms. Nadia Al-Mubarak representing Al-Balqa Governorate, several administrative staff members, and university students. Dr. Noor Al-Dabbas presented the university's shield to Captain Ayoub Abu Al-Rabee.
Captain Ayoub Abu Al-Rabee from the Cybercrime Unit in Al-Balqa Governorate spoke about the concept of cybercrime, its types and forms, and the penalties associated with cybercrimes. He also discussed internet safety mechanisms and where to seek help if one encounters a cybercrime.
Abu Al-Rabee highlighted that ignorance of the Cybercrime Law can turn internet users into victims or lead them to imprisonment, as these are considered real crimes. Many young people using the internet and social media often find themselves in legal troubles, some of which qualify as felonies, leading them to criminal courts. These issues often arise from ignorance of the law, ultimately destroying the lives of many young individuals who fall victim to their ignorance and exploitation by others.
At the end of the lecture, the representative from the Cybercrime Unit in Al-Balqa Governorate noted that statistics from the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department in the Public Security Directorate have shown a steady increase in the number of cybercrimes handled by the unit each year.
