The Department of Film, Television and Theater Design organized the fifth film screening of the University Cinema Series in partnership with Ma3mal 612 Think Factory
Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Abdul Salam Al-Shboul, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design, the Department of Film, Television and Theater Design at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, organized the fifth edition of the university's cinema series in partnership with Ma3mal 612 Think Factory / Karama Human Rights Film Festival, by screening the Irish film “Young Plato”, on Sunday, 18 Dec 2022, at 11 a.m. at Mahmoud Darwish Amphitheater, in conjunction with the 13th edition of the Karama Human Rights Film Festival, which is taking place at the Royal Cultural Center from 15 to 21 Dec, 2022.
The event was attended by Mr. Kevin McAvery (the main actor) - Principal of Holly Cross School in Ireland, in addition to Dr. Wasan Haddad and Dr. Rasha Al-Ahmad, faculty members of the Faculty of Media - University of Petra, a group of faculty students, representatives of Ma3mal 612 Think Factory / Karama Human Rights Film Festival, in addition to professors and students of the Department of Film, Television and Theater Design at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Al-Ahliyya Amman University.
The film is an observational documentary set in Belfast (Ireland), which aims to empower children and encourage them to see beyond the boundaries of their community. The film also offers a philosophical idea that encourages children to question myths of war and violence.
This event comes in the context of activating the memorandum of understanding signed by the university with Ma3mal 612 Think Factory / Karama Human Rights Film Festival, in December last year, and as part of the university's cinema series launched by the department in cooperation with the Global Engagement Center at the university, and in partnership with Ishtar Iraq Film Production Company, which aims to raise students' applied skills through access to local, Arab and international cinematic experiences, in addition to promoting cinematic culture in community circles.
A panel discussion was held between the students and the main actor of the film, which dealt with the directorial vision, production techniques and challenges faced by the crew. The panel discussion was concluded by honoring the guest with the university shield.
