The AAU Business School Hosts the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank
The AAU Business School hosted Dr. Adel Sharkas, the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank on Monday, 22/5/2017. The guest delivered a lecture on “The Monitory Policy of the Central Bank and its Effect on the National Economy”. The lecture took place in the Graduate Studies Theatre of the Business School. It was attended by Prof. Abed Al-Naser Noor, the Dean of the Business School; Prof. Suleiman Al-Louzy, the AAU Vice President and members of the academic staff along with a number of students. Dr. Sharkas highlighted the role of the Central Bank in analyzing the economic indicators in Jordan. He also elaborated on the goals of the Central Bank which actually attempt to keep the general level of stability in prices and in the exchange rate of the Dinar along with harmonizing the interest rate with the local and international developments. Dr. Sharkas also clarified the role of the Central Bank in monitoring the banks in order to keep an eye on these banks less they misuse the surplus reserves. The bank’s goal is to protect peoples deposits. He also gave an overview of Jordanian banks indicating that they have sufficient capital. He pointed out that the percentage of none-performing loans compared with the total number of loans is a good percentage and is considered one of the lowest levels in the Middle East. Finally, Dr. Sharkas explained the meaning of the economic reform program which the government adopts and abides by the reform procedures and the role of the bank in performing them. At the end, he answered questions raised by the audience and listened to their comments. Prof. Al-louzy handed in the University shield to the guest speaker.
