President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University chairs the meeting of the Executive Board of the Association of Arab Universities in Khartoum, Sudan

The first meeting of the Executive Board on its 54th session for the General Conference of the Association of Arab Universities was held at the University of Khartoum in Sudan. Prof. Sari Hamdan, President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University chaired this meeting on its 54th session in the presence of the Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities, Prof. Amr Izzat Salama and the Assistant Secretary Generals, Prof. Khamisi Hamidi and Prof. Abdel Rahim Al-Hunaity. In addition to the presence of the Administration Director of the Federation, Ms. Lina Al-Bitar and members of the Executive Board who represents the countries of the Arab World in order to discuss a set of various matters.The Lieutenant General Ibraheem Jaber, representative of the Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan welcomed the Secretary General of the Association, Prof. Amr Izzat Salama and the accompanied delegation consisting of universities’ presidents participating in the first meeting of the Executive Board for the General Conference of the Association hosted by the University of Khartoum. According to a press release issued by the Association, the Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities, Prof. Amr Salama awarded the Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan with the gold medal of the Union that is awarded to heads of states, in which was received on his behalf by Lieutenant General Ibraheem Jaber.The Sudanese Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Mohammad Hasan Dahab along with the Director of the University of Khartoum, Prof. Imad El Din El-Amin Ardeeb welcomed the Secretary General of the Association, Prof. Amr Salama, and members of the Executive Council and discussed different strategies and mechanisms prepared on the meeting’s agenda that may be adopted to elevate the academic rank of Arab universities as well as increase their competitiveness on a global level that will reflect positively on comprehensive and sustainable development in various Arab countries. Participants in the meeting praised the great movement witnessed by the Federation and the explicit programs and projects it is implementing, highlighting the Arab University Classification and Ranking project, which aims to qualify Arab journals for the international classification Scopus and the Unified Framework for Arab Qualifications in addition to other pioneering projects and ideas.The members of the Council also discussed accepting the membership request of five new Arab universities that requested to join the umbrella of the federation, in addition to the request of changing the membership of the University of Hormud in Somalia from an associate member to an active member. Moreover, the members discussed the project of establishing an Association for Crisis and Risk Management, the proposal to establish an Association for Open Education, the proposal of the Arab organization for Admission and Registration Officials in Arab universities to join besides to the applications submitted by universities to host the 55th session of the General Conference of the Association of Arab Universities the upcoming year.The Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities, Prof. Amr Salama, stated that the union represents one of the most important institutions of joint Arab action and aims to strengthen the Arab unity and joint collaboration in the field of higher education and scientific research, noting that the Association includes 450 educational institutions as associate and active members. Prof. Salama added that the Association seeks through its strategy to promote and raise the higher education and scientific research in the region for a better educational future filled with success and prosperity.
