The President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, Professor Sari Hamdan, received former Minister of Justice His Excellency Professor Lawyer Ayman Odeh and Senator Judge Ihsan Barakat, in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Dr. Asid Dhnibat. The meeting took place during a specialized panel discussion titled The Role of the Judiciary in Arbitration, organized by the Faculty of Law under the supervision of Dr. Shadi Al-Tarawneh.
The discussion addressed the role played by the judiciary throughout the various stages of arbitration procedures, whether prior to the commencement of arbitration, during its proceedings, or following the issuance of the arbitral award. It also examined the scope of judicial supervisory authority over arbitration procedures and the relevant judicial rulings, beginning with challenges to arbitrators and concluding with the final decision of the Court of Cassation regarding the enforcement of arbitral awards.
The panel further highlighted the differences between domestic and international arbitration and emphasized the importance of a sound legal framework governing both. This, the speakers noted, strengthens confidence in arbitration as an effective alternative dispute resolution mechanism and contributes to the promotion of justice and the achievement of legal stability.
