MoU Signed Between AAU and the Arab Federation for the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights

In a strategic step to enhance academic and scientific cooperation in the field of intellectual property rights protection, Al-Ahliyya Amman University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Arab Federation for the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights. The agreement aims to support scientific research and implement joint programs in areas such as innovation, patents, and trademarks. The MoU also seeks to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application by offering various training courses and workshops for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Faculty of Law and other relevant faculties. These initiatives will contribute to enhancing students’ practical skills and applied knowledge. The agreement was signed on behalf of Al-Ahliyya Amman University by Professor Sari Hamdan, President of the University, and on behalf of the Arab Federation by His Excellency Mr. Osama Mousa Al-Bitar, Secretary-General of the Federation. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Khaled Hreirat, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Mohammad Odeibat, Assistant Professor of Commercial Law and Arbitration, and lawyer Mr. Firas Al-Qudah. Both parties emphasized the importance of promoting intellectual property awareness in the Arab world, particularly in Jordan, and the value of collaboration between academic institutions and specialized Arab organizations to foster creativity and support sustainable development. They also stressed the need to involve students—especially those in the law program—in awareness and training programs related to intellectual property. The memorandum aims to facilitate the exchange of academic and practical expertise, organize joint events, produce specialized studies and research, and develop strategies to protect innovation in the digital environment. It will also provide students with opportunities to obtain professional certificates in areas related to intellectual property, enhancing their readiness for the labor market. Professor Sari Hamdan expressed his delight at this partnership and praised the role of the Arab Federation in promoting intellectual property protection across the Arab region. He confirmed that the agreement will significantly raise awareness and practical skills among students from various disciplines. This collaboration coincides with the celebration of World Intellectual Property Day, observed annually on April 26, which was launched by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000 to raise awareness of the impact of patents, copyrights, and trademarks. Mr. Osama Mousa Al-Bitar reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to building effective partnerships with leading higher education institutions in the region, aiming to spread a culture of innovation and strengthen the protection of inventors’ and creators’ rights in the Arab world. He also thanked Professor Sari Hamdan for his support and acknowledged the efforts of Professor Osaid Al-Dneibat, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Dr. Mohammad Odeibat, Intellectual Property Law instructor, for their key roles in shaping this academic collaboration. Dr. Odeibat has been appointed as the liaison officer between the University and the Federation. The agreement is expected to offer students unprecedented opportunities to engage in a stimulating professional environment and obtain specialized experience certificates in vital fields that enhance their competitiveness in the job market.
