Faculty of Agricultural Technology Participates in Workshop Titled: “Samh Plant: Reality and Aspirations for Sustainable Development”
Dr. Rasha Al-Tarawneh, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, and Engineer Tasneem Ali participated in a specialized scientific workshop entitled “Samh Plant: Reality and Aspirations for Sustainable Development,” held under the gracious invitation of the Fund, represented by Acting Director Dr. Omar Gharaibeh, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The workshop was honored by the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Ali, alongside a distinguished group of ministers, academic figures, and national stakeholders. Her Royal Highness delivered an inspiring speech, stressing the importance of reviving the cultural and nutritional significance of the Samh plant as a staple of the Jordanian diet. She encouraged that Samh be included on every Jordanian dining table over the next three years, highlighting its high nutritional value, and its sustainable economic and environmental benefits.
The workshop aimed to promote agricultural scientific research that investigates the characteristics of this resilient native plant in terms of nutritional value, climate adaptability, and its role in enhancing national food security. It emphasized the importance of utilizing plant resources that thrive in harsh environmental conditions to provide healthy and safe food alternatives.
