Department of Architectural Engineering Organizes Scientific Visits to Historical Sites in Jerash, Jabal Al-Qala’a, and Al-Muwaqqar
The Department of Architectural Engineering at the Faculty of Architecture and Design, Al-Ahliyya Amman University, recently organized two scientific visits to a number of remarkable archaeological sites in Jordan. These visits aim to enhance the practical aspect of education by linking theoretical concepts to architectural heritage.
The first visit was a field trip to the ancient city of Jerash, under the supervision of Dr. Nasser Abu Anzeh, a faculty member in the department, alongside Engineer Dalyana Al-Sahawneh and Engineer Alaa Al-Waked from the administrative team. During the tour, the students had the opportunity to explore key architectural landmarks in Jerash, such as the Jerash Gate, the Colonnaded Street, and the Oval Plaza, and to learn about the artistry of ancient Roman architecture, which is prominently represented in Jerash’s sophisticated city planning and unique architectural style.
The second visit included the Umayyad Palace in Jabal Al-Qala’a and the Islamic Desert Castles in Al-Muwaqqar, such as Qasr Amra and Qasr Al-Hallabat. The tour was led by Dr. Nasser Abu Anzeh, alongside Engineer Tamara Al-Kharabsheh and Engineer Nadine Shaaban. The aim of this visit was to introduce students to the distinguished architectural patterns of the Islamic era. These castles reflect the evolution and uniqueness of Islamic architecture in both form and function.
