Cinematic Editing in Saadi Youssef's Poetry: Workshop by the Faculty of Architecture and Design

The Faculty of Architecture and Design hosted the third session (part two) of its scientific season for the current academic year, organizing a workshop on cinematic editing in Saadi Youssef's poetry. The workshop was presented by Dr. Karim Fadel, a faculty member in the Department of Cinematic, Television, and Theatrical Design, and Dr. Umima Al-Rawashdeh, a faculty member in the Department of Social and Human Sciences at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The workshop took place on Thursday, November 16, 2023, via Microsoft Teams. The workshop explored the relationship between the art of cinema and literary arts, emphasizing how poetry benefits from cinema and its techniques, particularly cinematic editing. It delved into how cinema draws from literary texts and transforms them into dramatic texts. Dr. Fadel discussed editing techniques and methods in constructing cinematic language in films and how filmmakers borrow from literary texts. Dr. Al-Rawashdeh highlighted Saadi Youssef's rich poetic experience and his use of poetic editing techniques in his poems. The workshop was attended by faculty and administrative members. It is part of the scientific season launched by the Faculty for the current academic year, including a series of workshops and scientific lectures presented by faculty members. It also aims to enhance communication among faculty members across different faculties and academic programs at the university.
