Al-Ahliyya Amman University Ranked First in Jordan and 132nd in Asia in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2026
Al-Ahliyya Amman University has achieved a new academic milestone by ranking first among Jordanian universities in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2026. The university secured the 132nd position across Asia, advancing by 54 places compared to its position in the 2025 rankings, thereby becoming the highest-ranked university in Jordan.
This achievement reaffirms the university’s distinguished academic standing and reflects its continuous efforts in the fields of education, scientific research, and international engagement, in accordance with the global standards adopted by the ranking. These standards include teaching quality, research environment, research quality, industry collaboration, and international outlook.
The advancement reflects the strategic vision of Al-Ahliyya Amman University in promoting institutional excellence, enhancing higher education outcomes, and supporting innovation and scientific research in line with international best practices.
The achievement is also the result of the continuous support provided by the Chairman and members of the Board of Trustees, the Chairman and members of the Board of Directors, the university administration, as well as the dedicated efforts of the academic and administrative staff and students, all of whom contributed to strengthening the university’s position locally, regionally, and internationally.
On this occasion, Dr. Maher Al-Hourani, Chairman of the Board of Directors, expressed his pride in this accomplishment, emphasizing that it reflects the university’s strategic vision in its journey toward global recognition.
He stated: “Al-Ahliyya Amman University is proud of what has been achieved today. This accomplishment is the result of integrated institutional efforts and a clear vision that we have established to position the university among institutions with a strong global presence. We are moving confidently toward broader horizons, with leading international universities serving as our benchmark in the coming phase, contributing to strengthening the presence of Jordanian higher education on the international map.”
For his part, the University President, Professor Sari Hamdan, praised this significant achievement, stressing that it reflects the university’s commitment to fulfilling the objectives of its 2025–2030 strategic plan and consolidating its position as a leading research university.
He stated: “Al-Ahliyya Amman University leading Jordanian universities in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2026, and advancing by 54 places within a single year, is the outcome of comprehensive institutional work that brings together academic and administrative staff and students within one integrated system. We are proud of this achievement and remain committed to advancing the outcomes of education and scientific research in ways that serve the university, the nation, and the region.”
It is noteworthy that the university’s overall score increased from 44.7 in the 2025 rankings to 51.7 in the 2026 rankings, driven by significant progress across key performance indicators. The Research Quality score rose from 70.0 to 84.0, the Research Environment score increased from 22.9 to 29.8, and the Industry Engagement score improved from 51.3 to 56.9. Meanwhile, the International Outlook score reached 93.8, one of the highest scores achieved globally in this indicator.
Professor Ahmad Abu Orabi, Dean of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, explained that the unprecedented research excellence strongly supports this progress in the rankings, stating: “The university’s research performance now mirrors that of globally prestigious universities. The Research Quality score increased by fourteen points, while the Research Environment score rose by nearly seven points. This progress did not come by chance; rather, it is the result of the university’s investment in interdisciplinary research, the expansion of international collaboration networks, and the enhancement of publication quality in first- and second-quartile indexed journals. Applied scientific research will remain our fundamental pillar in the future.”
Dr. Ahmad Mansour, Director of the Center for Sustainability and International Rankings, also commented: “This achievement is not the end of the journey; rather, it marks the true beginning of Al-Ahliyya Amman University’s path toward global recognition. Today, the university represents one of the international reference models for institutions striving for excellence.”
It is worth emphasizing that Al-Ahliyya Amman University continues to move steadily from one achievement to another, marking its journey with pride and impactful presence locally, regionally, and internationally, driven by its mission to provide distinguished quality education and build a university environment that fosters creativity and leadership.
