Al-Ahliyya Amman University Launches the University Cinema Activities Premiering Mosul 980 Film at Mövenpick Hotel
Under the auspices of Dr. Maher Al Hourani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Ahliyya Amman University and on behalf of the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Sari Hamdan, Prof. Dr. Musleh Tarawneh, Vice President of the University Dean of the Faculty of Law, launched the university cinema events at the Mövenpick Hotel - Amman with the premiere of the Oscar-nominated film Mosul 980 on Saturday evening 14 May 2022. The event was organized and hosted by Al-Ahliyya Amman University represented by the Faculty of Architecture and Design / Department of Film, Television and Theatre Design in coordination with the Center for Global Engagement and in partnership with Ishtar Iraq film production company.The event was attended by H.E. Cultural Advisor at the Iraqi Embassy in Amman, Wasim Tamimi, representatives of the Iraqi community in Jordan, representatives of the Royal Jordanian Film Commission and a number of media professionals and filmmakers specializing in the movie industry.Dr. Tarawneh gave a speech on behalf of the university President, in which he welcomed the attendees of this event that as considered among the achievements of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, the leader of private education in Jordan and the Arab world. The university has achieved advanced ranks in many local, regional and international academic classifications, the most recent of which was the University Impact Rankings of the International Times Organization issued on Wednesday, 27 April 2022, which is concerned with the impact of international universities in their communities and in achieving global sustainability according to UN standards, where the University ranked No. 1 in Jordan, and among the top 200 universities worldwide as the University has made remarkable progress in most of this ranking’s standards.Furthermore, he pointed to the university's introduction of advanced academic programs accredited locally and internationally and its keenness to provide a smart knowledge environment supporting creativity and innovation and partnering with many local and regional institutions to provide employment opportunities for its graduates.Dr. Tarawneh concluded by stating that Al-Ahliyya Amman University continues its creative career in accordance with the academic scientific approach for 30 years now and will remain an educational monument and destination for students from around the world.For his part, Professor Dr. Abdul Salam Al Shbool, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design at the University, spoke in a speech in which he said that the Faculty of Architecture and Design is one of the creative entities of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, where since its establishment in 2010 the faculty embraced creativity and provided the right environment for its development, where we believe that creative achievement is a humanitarian act which always needs an embracing environment. Our doors are always open at the Faculty of Architecture and Design to all those interested in creative affairs, and we provide them with all forms of support, which contributes to the development of creative thinking skills for our students.He added, that in order to achieve this, the faculty offers five academic programs at the bachelor's level, one in interior design, the second in graphic design, the third in architecture, the fourth in film, television and theatrical design, and the fifth in multimedia design, and the faculty has introduced a master's program in interior design that started in 2019, which is the first of its kind among all Jordanian universities.He stressed the efforts of the faculty’s administration in a series of futuristic projects, to create new tools in education and learning, in order to reach a high level of university education in the disciplines offered by the faculty, supported by the keenness of the university administration to attract specialized teaching staff with competence and experience. Furthermore, the faculty has also been preparing study plans that fit the modern times and the requirements of the labor market, in order to achieve its vision, mission and objectives that are inspired by the vision, mission and objectives of the University and in order to achieve local and international accreditation, that gives a strong indication of the level of our graduates, their competence and their willingness to contribute to the labor market effectively for the development and prosperity of our societies, pointing out that the faculty obtained a quality assurance certificate from the Accreditation Authority of Higher Education Institutions.Dr. Karim Fadhil, Head of The Department of Film, Television and Theatre Design at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, said in his speech: From this city, the capital of the Hashemites, and from Al-Ahliyya Amman University, the pioneer of private education in Jordan and the Arab world, which embodies the vision of the late Dr. Ahmed Al-Hourani (May God rest his soul), and his family continued his work, represented by Dr. Maher Al-Hourani, and from this hall (Amman 1), The Department of Film, Television and Theatre Design/ Faculty of Architecture and Design/ of Al-Ahliyya Amman University launches the University Cinema event in coordination with the University's Global Engagement Center, in partnership with Ishtar Film Production Company, with the aim of publicizing the culture of art and creativity in the university and local community.The speeches were followed by a screening of the film Mosul 980, which deals with the issue of the abduction of Yazidi girls in Iraq, and then a panel discussion took place with the film's director Ali Mohammed Saeed and producer Mona Al-Kathimi, moderated by Dr. Al Hakem Massoud and Dr. Erin Sharaa.The ceremony was presented by Prof. Reem Abed of the University's Global Liaison Office.
