Al- Ahliyya Amman University and the Water Authority Explore Prospects for Joint Cooperation

Dr. Maher Hourani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al- Ahliyya Amman University, Acting President of the University Professor Ahmad Hamdan, and the University's Advisor Professor Sari Hamdan welcomed a high-level delegation from the Water Authority on Thursday, July 23, 2026. The delegation was headed by the Secretary General of the Water Authority, Eng. Sufian Al-Bataineh, and included Assistant Secretary General for Administrative Affairs Mr. Imad Al-Qatawneh, Assistant Secretary General for Media and Communication Mr. Omar Salameh, Assistant Secretary General for Financial Affairs Mr. Khaled Al-Adgham, along with several officials from the Authority. Representing the University were Dr. Arwa Al-Khatib, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy; Dr. Rasha Al-Tarawneh, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology; Dr. Fairooz Abu Suweilem, Director of the Global Engagement Center; and Dr. Waleed Al-Sayed, Director of the Human Resources and Institutional Excellence Unit. The meeting focused on exploring opportunities to establish a strategic partnership between the two institutions and enhance cooperation in scientific research, national capacity building, and innovation in water- and environment-related sectors. Dr. Maher Hourani emphasized that Al-Ahliyya Amman University University views partnerships with national institutions as a fundamental pillar of development and excellence. He highlighted the University's commitment to leveraging its academic and research expertise to support Jordan's national development priorities and strengthen collaboration with government entities in order to prepare highly qualified national professionals capable of addressing future challenges, particularly in strategic sectors. Professor Ahmad Hamdan welcomed the visiting delegation, stressing that the University regards cooperation with the Water Authority as an important step toward building effective partnerships that integrate academic knowledge with practical application. He noted that such collaboration would support scientific research, provide distinguished training opportunities for students, facilitate the exchange of expertise, and enable the implementation of joint projects that serve the water sector while aligning with Jordan's sustainable development agenda. For his part, Eng. Sufian Al-Bataineh affirmed that the Water Authority places great importance on strengthening collaboration with national universities, recognizing their vital role in preparing qualified professionals, advancing scientific research, and developing innovative solutions to the challenges facing the water sector. He added that the visit reflects the Authority's commitment to expanding cooperation with academic institutions to enhance applied research, build the capacities of students and researchers, promote knowledge exchange, and capitalize on scientific expertise to support water sector projects in line with Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision and efforts to ensure the sustainability of the Kingdom's water resources. During the meeting, Dr. Arwa Al-Khatib delivered a presentation highlighting the University's journey, its faculties and academic programs, its achievements at both the national and international levels, and its progress in global rankings. She also outlined the University's contributions to scientific research, innovation, community service, and its partnerships with national and international institutions. The delegation also toured several of the University's facilities and faculties, where they were introduced to its teaching and research laboratories, specialized centers, and modern infrastructure designed to prepare graduates according to the highest international standards. At the conclusion of the visit, both parties reaffirmed the importance of continuing coordination and strengthening their collaboration through the development of high-quality programs and initiatives in training, scientific research, and innovation. They emphasized that such efforts would enhance integration between the academic sector and the water sector, contribute to national development, and support the sustainable management of Jordan's water resources.
