Al-Ahliyya Amman University and Scientific Research Support Fund Collaborate on Probiotic-Enriched Dairy Project
Al-Ahliyya Amman University has signed a financial support agreement with the Scientific Research Support and Industrial Development Fund, affiliated with the Higher Council for Science and Technology, in partnership with Petra University and Al-Maha Jordanian Dairy Company.
Under the agreement, Al-Ahliyya Amman University serves as the lead academic and research partner in a project aimed at developing and producing dairy products enriched with beneficial bacteria (probiotics) using innovative microencapsulation technology, enhancing the health value of local food products.
The university’s research team, led by Professor Dr. Ghaleb Uraikat and Dr. Mohammed Al-Malkawei, oversees the scientific and practical aspects of the project in collaboration with the participating academic and industrial partners.
The initiative is supported and guided by University President Professor Dr. Sari Hamdan and Dr. Maher Al-Hourani, Chairman of the University Board of Directors and Al-Maha Dairy Company. It reflects a commitment to strengthening integration between academia and industry, and to transforming scientific research into industrial products with added value.
The technology used encapsulates beneficial bacteria in fine microcapsules, protecting them during production and storage to ensure their viability and effectiveness until reaching consumers, resulting in a high-quality functional food product.
This project aligns with the vision of the Scientific Research Support and Industrial Development Fund, which aims to align university research with the needs of Jordan’s industrial sector and promote innovation in support of the Kingdom’s sustainable development goals.
