AAU Hosts IEEE Jordan Conference with Participation of Leading Researchers and Experts

The Faculty of Information Technology at Al-Ahliyya Amman University organized its first international conference on emerging technologies and engineering systems, in collaboration with the Association of Arab Universities and IEEE Jordan. The conference brought together a wide range of researchers, academics, and experts in information technology, and was attended by the University President, Professor Sari Hamdan, the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Professor Ahmad Hamdan, the Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology, Professor Mohammad Al-Qatawneh, Dr. Iyad Shaaban, Assistant President for Accreditation, Quality, and Planning and Director of Human Resources and Institutional Development, as well as a number of deans and academic and administrative staff. The conference was held in cooperation with IEEE Jordan as part of the university’s commitment to strengthening scientific research, expanding academic and technical collaboration, and keeping pace with the latest developments in technology and innovation. In his opening remarks, Professor Sari Hamdan expressed his pride in the success of the conference, noting that the participation of distinguished researchers with high-quality papers enriched scientific discussions and opened new avenues for innovation and development. He added that holding the conference despite regional challenges reflects the determination of academic institutions to continue fulfilling their scientific and intellectual mission. The conference covered several specialized scientific tracks, including cybersecurity and privacy, artificial intelligence and data science, Internet of Things and smart systems, innovation technologies, communications and networking technologies, software engineering, and smart engineering applications. The event attracted strong international participation, with 218 research papers submitted and 76 accepted, reflecting an acceptance rate of 34.9% and a high level of academic quality. A total of 496 peer reviews were conducted by 103 reviewers. The accepted papers were distributed across multiple themes, with artificial intelligence and data science leading with 26 papers, followed by engineering applications with 17, cybersecurity and privacy with 14, innovation technologies with 8, communications and networking with 5, software engineering with 3, and Internet of Things with 3. Geographically, researchers from 17 countries participated, including Jordan, Palestine, England, Turkey, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Algeria, Morocco, Syria, and Lebanon. At the conclusion of the conference, participants issued several recommendations emphasizing the importance of strengthening international research collaboration between Arab and global universities, particularly in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, and establishing platforms for knowledge exchange and joint research projects. They also highlighted the need to enhance young researchers’ skills through specialized workshops on academic writing and publication, as well as issuing a special indexed journal issue featuring the best conference papers. Furthermore, participants stressed the importance of aligning scientific research with the needs of industrial and service sectors, encouraging researchers to focus on real-world problem solving, and investing in high-quality Arabic data infrastructures to support the development of regionally relevant artificial intelligence models. They also recommended organizing the conference annually and expanding participation in future editions. In closing, the University President expressed hope that the conference outcomes, including the research papers and recommendations, will contribute to advancing the information technology sector, developing artificial intelligence and technology industries, and strengthening the university’s position as a leading academic institution in innovation and research.
