Zaid Mustafa Makes History, Qualifies for Paris 2024 Olympics

Zaid Mustafa Abdul Karim, a student at our university and a member of the national Taekwondo team, has made history by securing direct qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games—a first in Jordanian Taekwondo history. Zaid secured his spot by finishing among the top five in the Grand Prix Taekwondo Championship's final round in Manchester, UK. Victories over an Italian opponent in the Round of 16 and a South Korean player in the quarter-finals marked his journey. Despite a semi-final defeat against a Hungarian athlete, Zaid's achievement was confirmed when his university compatriot, Zaid Al-Halawani, withdrew from the third-place playoff. This awarded the bronze medal to Mustafa and secured his place at the Paris 2024 Olympics alongside fellow university graduate Saleh Al-Sharbati. The university's leadership and faculty, represented by Dr. Maher Al-Hourani, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Prof. Sari Hamdan, President, along with academic and administrative staff, extend heartfelt congratulations to Zaid Mustafa and Saleh Al-Sharbati for this historic achievement in Jordanian Taekwondo. They wish them success in the Paris 2024 Olympics.
