Al-Ahliyya Amman University participated in the workshop, which was held at the Royal Scientific Society, in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Science and Technology and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Adel Tweissi, Secretary General of the Council, with the participation of representatives from a number of relevant authorities, universities and other institutions. A number of working papers prepared by Tunisia and Lebanon experts were presented in the workshop, in order to familiarize the participants with science and technology observatories and to indicate the importance of establishing such an observatory in Jordan. The lecturers explained that the primary purpose of technology and innovation centers is to collect and manage data related to technology and innovation so as to enable the country to produce, analyze and disseminate national indicators of research, development and innovation in order to assist decision-makers to develop policies based on the considered indicators, in addition to providing specialized studies. A number of observatories are established worldwide (for example, in France, Malaysia, etc.) and in the Arab world, including Tunisia, Lebanon and Syria. Universities have an important role in providing specific information needed for observatories, since the majority of data related to scientific research is published by universities. At the end of the workshop, the proposals submitted by the participants concerning the establishment of the Jordanian Observatory were discussed.
