“University Role in Fighting Terrorism and Extremism” seminar hosted at Al-Ahliyya Amman University

Under the auspices of the President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, Prof. Dr. Sadeq Hamed, in cooperation with the Gate of Freedom Center for Human Rights and Youth Moderation Commission, a seminar entitled (University Role in Fighting Terrorism and Extremism) was held. The seminar was delivered by HE Dr. Sabri Rbeihat, former Minister of Political Development, and Dr. Sami Al-Majali, Head of the Supreme Youth Council. The lecturers addressed the role of universities and their contributions to the fight against terrorism and extremism. They emphasized the importance of the Amman Message, which adopts an approach that is keen to highlight the true image of Islam. The speakers noted the need for a national strategy to counter extremist ideology. They called for concerted efforts to fight terrorism as an inhumane phenomenon that leads to the exclusion of the other and promotes hatred discourse. They added that terrorism is a flagrant violation of international human rights standards and is inconsistent with the tolerance approach of the sacred religions that urge respect for human dignity.The seminar was attended by Dr. Mamoun Al-Dabai, Vice President, Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Mufid Hawasheen, deans, faculty members and a group of students.
