The Minister of Social Development Inaugurates the Third AAU National Conference for Voluntary Charitable Work Titled “Reality and Ambition”
As a representative of the Prime Minister Dr. Hani Al-Mulqi, the Minister of Social Development, Engineer Wajeeh Al-Azaizeh inaugurated the activities of the Third AAU National Conference for the Voluntary Charitable Work titled “Reality and Ambition”. The conference was organized by the General Union of Charitable Associations in Al-Balqa Governate and supported by the AAU. The event took place in the Nizar Qabani Theatre on Sunday, 23/4/2017. The conference was held in the presence of the former Prime Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Nusoor, Al-Balqa Governor Nayef Al-Hajaya and a group of guests and invitees. It was also attended by the President of the University, a number of academic and administrative staffs and students of the University.During his speech in the opening ceremony, Al-Azaizeh confirmed that the government’s interest in developing the social work expressed in its ministerial declaration to promulgate the social labor work and the profession of the social work; to upgrade social services; to focus on preventing social problems and to enhance the readiness of the government to support charitable associations and to offer them an environment suitable for their works. He added that “As a government partner, charitable associations are required to strengthen their focus on avoiding duplication and redundancy in providing their services. Moreover, they should respond to the criteria of accreditation of the facilities of their service centers; adjust the quality of their services, increase the capabilities of their staff and strengthen their institutional capacities”.He pointed that the history of the charitable works in Jordan which extended throughout the charitable associations, goes back to 1912. The total number now has reached 5300 associations.On his part, Chairman of the Supreme Committee, Senator Marwan Al-Hmoud said: “that the topics listed in the conference agenda will have a great role in developing this sector which embodies the solidarity of Jordanians and their support”. He pointed out: “that the road is still difficult and long for those in charge of the voluntary work and there is still a great effort to overcome the current and expected obstacles. He wished that all efforts will be combined so that the concerned parties can provide the necessary resources and expand the base of those in charge of this important sector”.The Head of the General Union of Charitable Associations in Al-Balqa, Engineer Mahmud Al-Elwan said that the idea of the conference stemmed from the visions of His Majesty King Abdullah II which enhance the social and institutional work and promote excellence in public work. He pointed out that voluntary and charitable institutions became essential partners with the governmental and official institutions in achieving the national goals by addressing poverty and unemployment; providing job opportunities and contributing effectively to social comprehensive and sustainable environment. On his part, the Vice-President of the University, Dr. Suliman Al-Luzi emphasized the role of the University in communicating with the local community and in supporting its voluntary charitable institutions which aims to improve their works. He pointed out that the human role of the University is not limited to Al-balqa but includes all areas in need of support.The conference which lasted throughout the day included a number of work papers and meetings that discussed the voluntary work and its challenges and come up with feasible recommendations that support and develop this work.
