The Dean of the Business School Holds the Fourth Meeting with the Faculty Members

Prof. Abed Al-Naser Nour, The Dean of the Business School held a meeting at the beginning of the second semester of the academic year 2016-2017 with the faculty members to discuss the University Proficiency Exam. The Dean welcomed the faculty members and appreciated their continuous efforts to advance the School and the University.The Dean presented the achievements of the School during the last semester and what it intends to accomplish in the next periods. He also pointed out that the number of students who joined the School and all departments in the second semester was the best because of the concerted efforts of all colleagues. The Dean presented an overview of the University Proficiency Exam, which in its new form aims to determine the quality of the outputs of the Jordanian Institutions of Higher Education and the outputs of their programs and to identify the strengths and weaknesses in them. The aim is to assists policy and plans makers in cooperation with the Accreditation Commission of the Higher education Institutions to address the weaknesses and to boost the strengths. The exam is based on measuring competencies rather than being an achievement exam which measures knowledge, facts and theories that a student learned and was tested in it.He also explained the structure of the exam and its three levels and presented an analysis of the results regarding the position of the University and its status among other counterparts. The Dean also presented an analysis for all the results of the exam of the Business School at the intermediate and specific levels, explaining the challenges facing the School. He also talked about a case study which aims to build standards for cognitive competencies for the specific level of the University Proficiency Exam for students of the Department of Accounting. The Dean prepared this case study as a model for each department in the School and to conduct a similar analysis to prepare questions of an experimental proficiency exam intended for the specific level in order to measure the cognitive competencies.Furthermore, the Dean discussed with the attendants the results of the exam which students of all departments in the Business School achieved in the three levels (general, intermediate and specific) of the University Proficiency Exam for the first semester of the academic year 2016-2017.At the end of the meeting, the Dean of the School asserted the significance of the exam and strengthening its concept for students’ benefits and intensifying the efforts of all faculty members to improve the quality of students’ results. He also answered all questions raised by the faculty members.
