The AAU President Congratulates the Winning Students in the Sofia International Open Championship for Taekwondo

The AAU President, Prof. Sari Hamdan, congratulated the players of the University and the National Taekwondo Team for winning the Sofia International Open Championship. It is worth mentioning that 700 male and female players around the world participated in this championship which was concluded on Sunday, 7/3/2021. In this championship, player Saleh Al-Sharabati won the gold medal after winning four matches, beating the Egyptian player Saif Issa, who qualified for the Tokyo Olympics. In the semi-finals, Zaid Al-Halawani won the gold medal after defeating the Serbian player Novak Stanik (the bronze holder in the last world championship) before his opponent withdrew in the final match.Zaid Mustafa, “the bronze winner of the 2018 Youth Olympics”, won the silver medal after losing in the final to the British player Sinden Bradley who is a world champion and a qualifier for the Tokyo Olympics.With these distinguished results for the AAU students, the National Team was able to win the championship title with seven (7) colored medals distributed into three (3) gold, three (3) silver and a (1) bronze medal.
