The AAU Faculty of Architecture & Design/ Department of Architecture Engineering Hosts A Lecture Titled Stones in Building Jordan: A Renewed March
The AAU Faculty of Architecture & Design/ Department of Architecture Engineering hosted the Jordanian Architect Bilal Hammad's lecture titled Stones in Building Jordan: A Renewed March. This lecture which was held online on Thursday, 11/3/2021, was part of the AAU’s celebrations of the centenary founding of the Jordanian State. The lecture dealt with several themes about building with stone in Jordan, such as the sources of stone in the different Jordanian regions, the types of stone according to its natural sources and the type of craft treatments related to its cutting, engraving and installing.The lecture was attended by the AAU Vice President for the Affairs of the Humanities Faculties and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Nael Al-Sharaa; the Assistant to the President for Accreditation & International Classification and the Director of the Center for Innovation & Excellence, Dr. Anas Al-Saud; the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Mustafa Al-Attiyat and the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture & Design Dr. Rama Al-Rabadi. The lecture was also attended by a number of faculty members and students of the Architecture Engineering Department along with the representatives of the labor sector and the Jordanian Engineers Association.At the beginning of the lecture, the Head of the Department of Architecture Engineering, Dr. Basma Osama, welcomed the respected guest. After that the Engineer Sanaa Hani from the Department of Architecture Engineering introduced the Architect Bilal Hammad and the theme of the lecture. Then, Engineer Hammad gave a lecture on the role of stone in building Jordan and displayed historical pictures of the building and the different types of stone and its inscriptions.The lecture was followed by an open session for the attendees and their questions. During this session, the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture & Design, Dr. Rama Al-Rabadi, emphasized the role of the stone material in forming the Jordanian identity in the past, present and future, especially that the stone material remained the basic building material reinforced the economic, social, cultural and political pillars which began since the establishment of the Jordanian State, and has continued to build the aesthetic and symbolic identity of Jordan until the present time. It is worthy to note that nearly 90 participants took part in this event that was held via the Zoom application.
