The AAU Deanship of Scientific Research and the Faculty of Arts & Sciences in Cooperation with the German Humboldt Club Organize the German Scientific Day

Under the auspices of the AAU President, Prof. Sari Hamdan, the AAU Deanship of Scientific Research and the Faculty of Arts & Sciences in cooperation with the German Humboldt Club organized the German Scientific Day on Thursday, 6/12/2018 in the Mahmud Darwish Theater. The event took place in the presence of the AAU Vice President, Dr. Sulaiman Al-Lozi, the Dean of Scientific Research Prof. Ekhlas Al – Tarawneh, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences, Dr. Joseph Bawalsa and the German Cultural Attaché, Tobias Caris. The event was attended also by the President of the Jordanian Humboldt Club, Prof. Marwan Musa, the representative of the Friedrich-Naumann Foundation for Freedom, Dr. Gabrielle von Welck, the representative of the (DAAD) Scholarship Program in Germany, the Director of the Directorate of Scientific Research Support Fund, Dr. Muhammad Geith and the President of the German Graduates Club, Engineer Tawfiq Abu Ershid. Moreover, a multitude of invitees and a number of deans and members of the academic & administrative staffs and students attended this event. Prof. Ekhlas Al-Tarawneh, the Dean of Scientific Research said: “It is my pleasure to extend the warm welcome on behalf of Al-Ahliyya Amman University represented by its President, the Deanship of Scientific Research and the Faculty of Arts & Sciences and to all participants in the German Scientific Day”. She also said: “I extend my thanks and appreciation to the Director of the Friedrich-Naumann Foundation, the representative of the DAAD Program, the Director of the Jordanian Scientific Research Support Fund, the President of the German Humboldt Club and President of the German Graduates Club for accepting our invitation to hold the German Scientific Day in the AAU Campus”.Al-Tarawneh noted that the agenda of this event would cover a wide range of interesting items related to the mutual interests and cooperation between Germany and Jordan, especially in the cultural and scientific fields and the scholarships of the DAAD German program in addition to the role of the Jordanian Humboldt Club. Al-Tarawneh explained that the importance of this day lies in opening doors for students and faculty members to know more about these programs and how to benefit from them.The President of the German University Graduates Club, Engineer Tawfiq Abu Ershid, talked about the importance of sciences in Germany and the contribution of the Germans to the progress they demonstrated at the level of physics and social & human sciences. He added that German universities have each year accepted Jordanian and Arab graduates and some universities have also included distinguished names of their Jordanian and Arab graduates on the lists of innovators in life and achievements. Ershid indicated that German universities have been accepting students for free or with nominal fees, which encourages a large number of students, especially from the poor sectors to enroll and study in German universities which are known for their high scientific levels in Europe.In his turn, the President of the Jordanian Humboldt Club, Dr. Marwan Mousa, praised the distinguished scientific reputation of AAU locally and internationally and indicated that the Club is proud to cooperate with the scientific creative energies of the University.Al-Mousa talked about the goals of the Club in developing relations between Arab and German researchers; establishing cooperation relations with various German educational institutions; facilitating the procedures for students who wish to complete their studies in German universities and holding scientific and educational conferences and workshops. The Director of the Directorate of Scientific Research Support Fund, Dr. Muhammad Geith, also talked about the Fund's achievements in supporting scientific research in Jordanian universities and stressed the importance of cooperation between German universities and institutions such as the Friedrich-Naumann Foundation for Freedom and the (DAAD) Scholarship Program in Germany. He also expressed his appreciation to AAU for holding such important events. Moreover, Dr. Gabrielle von Fricks, the representative of the (DAAD) Scholarship Program in Germany explained the objectives of the Program and the bases and nature of the offered scholarships. Others also delivered speeches in this distinguished scientific day, including a speech by Dr. Salam Mahadin on behalf of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences which participated in organizing this event. At the end of the German Day program, the AAU president, Prof. Sari Hamdan, handed honorary shields to the representative of the Friedrich-Naumann Foundation for Freedom, Dr. Gabrielle von Welck Gabrielle von Welck, President of the Jordanian Humboldt Club, Prof. Marwan Musa, Dr. Gabrielle von Fricks, the representative of the (DAAD) Scholarship Program in Germany and The President of the German University Graduates Club, Engineer Tawfiq Abu Ershid in addition to Dr. Wisam Ammari from AAU.
