Shakra Secures Bronze in Thrilling K1 Karate Series Championship

Omar Shakra, a student at our AAU studying in the Department of Physical and Health Education, showcased his prowess on the international stage by clinching the bronze medal at the second round of the International Federation K1 series in Larnaca, Cyprus. Shakra secured his bronze medal by triumphing over Uzbek competitor Ulugbek with an impressive 4-0 victory in the under-60 kg category. His journey to the podium was marked by remarkable victories, including an 8-0 win against Macau's "Sing" in the round of 64 and an 8-5 victory over Japanese player Hiroki in the subsequent round. With unwavering determination, Shakra continued his winning streak, defeating Iranian player Aghdasi Khordeh 1-0 in the round of 16 and Malaysian player Prem Kumar 7-0 in the quarter-finals. Despite a valiant effort, he faced a setback in the semi-finals against Colombian player Juan David, losing 0-2, but his resilience earned him the chance to compete for the bronze medal. Professor Sari Hamdan, the University President, extended heartfelt congratulations to Shakra for his remarkable achievement, expressing hopes for his continued success in representing karate on the international stage. It's worth noting that Shakra received a full scholarship while pursuing his bachelor's degree at AAU, underscoring the institution's commitment to nurturing talent and excellence in sports.
