President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University meets faculty members at the University
President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University met faculty members at the University on the occasion of the end of the first semester of the academic year 2011-2012. The President welcomed the attendees and thanked them for their efforts they have made throughout the semester. The President of the University spoke with utmost openness and transparency, addressing many issues of concern to the University, which would raise the level of the educational process. In this context, Dr. Hamed tackled the tests and examinations held by the University for students, stressing the need for commitment by faculty members with the internationally adopted educational principles in preparing these exams and approving exam scores. He noted that in view of the importance of this issue, a technical committee was formed comprising a number of measurement, evaluation and programming experts at the University in order to automate processing the results of these examinations in accordance with the internationally adopted educational principles. The Committee has completed its mission and is currently experimenting the prepared system in order to verify its objectivity before proceeding with its approval and implementation. On the other hand, the President of the University stated that the presence of faculty members in the laboratories that fall within their official duties is inevitable and that this presence must continue for the prescribed laboratory course term. Dr. Hamed stressed that faculty members assume full responsibility for the laboratory, including laboratory examinations and results. He also noted that the presence of the faculty member at the University should not be confined to the lecture hours lectures only but should go beyond that. A faculty member should dedicate enough time to communicate with the students, participate in committees and councils, and provide sufficient time for research activities and other extracurricular activities, he added. With regard to depriving students from taking the final exam due to exceeding the allowable ratio of absence, the President of the University stated that deprivation should take place only upon written notice in accordance with the form approved by the Council of Quality and Quality Assurance in the University prepared for this purpose. As regards the relationship between faculty members and students, the President of the University stressed the need for mutual respect and professionalism to prevail between the two parties to the educational process, namely students and faculty members. Dr. Hamed asserted that a sense of tranquility and safety should prevail on campus. At the end of the meeting, the President of the University re-welcomed his fellow faculty members and wished them success in the performance of their duties. He commended their diligent efforts to enhance the position of the University, which they are honored to belong to. At the same time, Dr. Hamed confirmed that the University, represented by its board of directors, board of trustees and management will not hesitate to provide support and provide all that would improve the educational process and the outstanding level of the University and its employees.
