President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University Honors Student Mohammad Irshaid for Receiving the Mitacs International Scholarship

Professor Sari Hamdan, President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, honored Mohammad Irshaid, a student from the Faculty of Information Technology, in the presence of Dr. Fairooz Abu Suweilem, Director of the Global Engagement Center, in recognition of his academic excellence and his selection for a research scholarship under the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship 2026 program, one of the most prestigious international research internship programs for outstanding students. Irshaid was selected to participate in a research project entitled “A Metaheuristic Algorithm for Breast Cancer Classification and Diagnosis,” which will be conducted at Thompson Rivers University in Canada. As part of a research team, he will contribute to the development of an intelligent algorithm based on metaheuristic techniques to improve the accuracy of breast cancer classification and diagnosis, supporting the healthcare sector with innovative artificial intelligence–driven solutions. Professor Sari Hamdan praised this achievement, emphasizing that the success of the University’s students in securing international programs and scholarships reflects the institution’s advanced academic standards and demonstrates its students’ ability to compete and excel on the global scientific stage. This opportunity is the result of the efforts of the Jordan Source delegation to Canada in 2024 and falls within the framework of the Youth, Technology, and Jobs (YTJ) Project, which contributed to establishing a strategic partnership with Mitacs. The initiative has opened doors for Jordanian students to gain advanced research experience at several Canadian universities in fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, robotics, and emerging technologies. Mohammad Irshaid is scheduled to travel to Canada later this month to join the research internship at Thompson Rivers University, where he will spend 12 weeks in an advanced research environment. This experience will further enhance his scientific and practical expertise while broadening his academic horizons on the international level.
