Pharmaceutical Cultural Competition at Al-Ahliyya Amman University
In terms of active participation and promoting the role of pharmacists in the community; the Pharmacist Field Training Committee, under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Sadeq Hamed, President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, held the Pharmaceutical Cultural Competition on pharmaceutical counseling under the title: “OTC Pharmacist-Patient Counseling”.The Pharmacist Field Training Committee at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences announced holding this competition since the beginning of December of 2013. 11 students applied for the first phase of the competition by presenting five-minute recorded films about the role of pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical counseling. The Pharmacist Field Training Committee reviewed these films and chose the best three scenarios, according to certain criteria and principles provided by Prof. Dr. Naila Polatova.Dr. Hassan Mu’ti, Assistant Dean for Pharmacist Field Training Affairs and Chairman of the Committee, delivered a speech in which he indicated the Committee intention to hold diploma training courses for its students in collaboration with Pharmacy-1, in return for nominal fees. These courses include Professional Diploma in Retail Pharmacy Management, Professional Diploma in Sales & Marketing, and Professional Diploma in Good Manufacturing Practice. At the end of his speech, Dr. Mu’ti thanked the members of the Training Committee and the Youth Committee students in the Faculty for their efforts in supporting the Committee to serve the interests of the Faculty of Pharmacy students.Prof. Dr. Naila Polatova stated that this competition is the first of its kind in the Middle East at universities level. She indicated the standards adopted by the Committee for assessing the contestants and selecting the best three films.During the final stage of the competition, students presented scenarios about a new drug and a hypothetical patient chosen by the Committee, i.e. pharmacist Bilal Hilo. Based on the three presentations, the Committee, composed of Dr. Mayada Al-Wathaefi, member of the University of Jordan , Dr. Malik Saadi, member of Farmajo Company, Dr. Hana Jabali, member of Pharmacy 1 Group, Dr. Wisam Amari, Committee member of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, and Dr. Randa Atwan, member of the Pharmaceutical Field Training Committee of Al-Ahliyya Amman University chose the winner student, in accordance with the standards created by the Committee. Student Joseph Qasho won first place, student Bahaa Amouri won second place, and student Hossam Al-Saadi won third place.At the end of the competition, Dr. Sadeq Hamed and Dr. Aya Kilani, representative of Rouhi Pharmacies, handed over certificates of acknowledgment to the winning students and participants in the competition. The competition was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences, faculty and administrative members, members of the Pharmaceutical Field Training Committee, and a group of the Faculty students.
