Dr. Shibli was a keynote speaker in the first session, addressing the factors and policies influencing food security. During his speech, Dr. Shibli explained the main challenges facing food security and smart food in Jordan, as well as the solutions that will contribute to securing balanced food that contains essential elements, vitamins, and more. The goal is to overcome the imbalances in our dietary system that affect consumers' health. Dr. Shibli praised the Jordanian government's efforts in ensuring food security during the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. King Abdullah II emphasized in his speech at the Borrogh Conference in 2020 that Jordan aspires to become a regional food center. Thus, national strategies for food security, agricultural development, and agricultural planning were developed to align with achieving food security and sustainable development goals in 2023. Dr. Shibli also praised the role played by international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture in Jordan. These organizations provided studies and statistics that help assess the nutritional status and position Jordan in the global food security and food systems framework. Furthermore, Dr. Shibli applauded the progress made in drafting the food security system and the ongoing efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture in developing a roadmap for food systems. He also participated in an expert panel discussion on smart foods and the importance of considering neglected foods for future food security in Jordan.
