Open Day and the Annual Charity Bazaar at Al-Ahliyya Amman University
The open day and annual charity bazaar was organized on Al-Ahliyya Amman University campus by the Higher Committee for Community Service and Activities. The event was held on Tuesday, 5/13/2014, under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Sadeq Hamed, President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University.The activities of the Open Day were inaugurated at Nizar Qabbani auditorium with rendition of the Royal Anthem, performed by the civil defense musical band, followed by verses from the Holy Quran. The ceremony was attended by faculty members, administrative staff, and the University students and their families. The opening ceremony featured miscellaneous sketches, including a performance by the University Coral, Dabke performance by the University band, followed by a performance by the Goodwill Ambassadors, artists Hossam and Wisam Lozi.A range of activities were organized at the University yards which aimed at raising student awareness on safety and prevention. Among these activities were an anti-drug mobile exhibition, and a presentation given by the civil defense on traffic accidents and how to deal with these accidents. During the charity bazaar, the University students showcased their products, such as homemade food, juice, sweets, craft product, and juggling sports. The proceeds of these events will be donated to charitable societies.A number of tents were set up during the event, including Umniah Company tent, through which souvenirs were presented to the students. An Arab Bedouin tent was set up, through which the Greater Amman Municipality band performed folk dances, with participation by the students and their families. An interactive show was presented by Pepsi.A variety of cultural activities were hosted during the Open Day. The prominent writer Ahmed Hassan Al-Zubi presented a satirical sketch, and two plays were performed. The two plays were entitled “Astrologers are liars even they speak the truth” and “Let me live your love”, prepared and presented by the University students. The Open Day also featured a book fair. The Open Day and charity bazaar events were concluded with (AAU Got Talent) competition, presented by host Mazen Diab. The University students took part in the competition and presented their talents, such as singing, playing musical instruments, and reciting poetry before a jury consisting of Mr. Malik Madi, former chairman of the Jordanian Artists Association, director Zaid Qudah, poet Mohammed Samhan, media figure Nisreen Abu Salha, and Mr. Raed Rashid, body language specialist. Student Reham Shtiwi of the Faculty of Architecture and Design won the first position, and got a 50% discount provided by the University and a mobile offered by Umniah. Student Firas Sarmini came in the second position, while student Mohamed Zidan came in the third place. Awards were given to all contestants.
