Meeting on Youth, Sports, and Culture to Discuss Political Empowerment of Students
Dr. Noor Al-Dabbas, Vice Dean of Student Affairs at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, participated in a meeting held by the Parliamentary Committee on Youth, Sports, and Culture. The meeting included a number of parliamentarians, deans of student affairs, and representatives from both public and private Jordanian universities. It aimed to discuss the role of universities in enhancing youth participation in political and party life.
The meeting was chaired by MP Mohammad Hudeib, and attended by First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Dr. Mustafa Al-Khasawneh, along with several MPs including Dr. Firas Qablan, Hael Ayash, Jihad Madanat, Abdel-Halim Ananeh, Mohammad Al-Zahrawi, Mo’taz Al-Harout, Noor Abu Ghosh, Malek Al-Tarawneh, and Moayad Al-Alawneh. The attendees emphasized the importance of politically empowering youth, considering them the backbone of any reform process.
They stressed that universities serve as incubators for fostering political and party awareness among students. The participants noted that recent legislation has focused on empowering youth by lowering the candidacy age to 25, allocating seats for them on national electoral lists, and allowing party participation within universities without restrictions.
Deans of student affairs, including Dr. Noor Al-Dabbas, affirmed the importance of cooperation between the House of Representatives, universities, and relevant institutions to ensure alignment between educational policies and national political modernization goals. They emphasized the need to enable students to engage in political and party activities on campus without hindrance, provided that such engagement does not interfere with the academic process.
The deans also confirmed that universities are encouraging student engagement in political and party life through non-curricular awareness programs and activities. They called on political parties to present clear visions and convincing programs that reflect the realities and aspirations of university students.
