“Madrasati Initiative” at Al-Ahliyya Amman University
Speech- language specialist, instructor Laila Qanawati, of Hearing and Speech Department at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, organized a tour that spanned a number of public schools in Balqa Governorate, including Allan Elementary Mixed School, Yamama Elementary Mixed School, Um Amara Elementary Mixed School, and Hasna Bint Muawiya Elementary Mixed School, during which awareness lectures were delivered for parents of students and teachers on the importance of early detection of speech and language disorders and the need to visit specialists for assessment and rehabilitation, in view of the negative impact of these disorders on students progress in schools. During the lecture, the participants were introduced to the free services provided by the Hearing and Speech Treatment Centre at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, such as assessment and training concerning hearing, language, speech, fluency, and voice disorders, including nasal snuffle. Parents and teachers showed considerable interest by raising numerous inquiries. The tour comes within Madrasati Initiative launched by Her Majesty Queen Rania Alabdllah to improve the level of education and upgrade its quality, within a strategic plan that meets the needs of schools and districts based on studies, focused panel discussions, and workshops for renewing requirements in collaboration with students, teachers and the community.
