Interior Design Department Organizes Field Visit to the City of Salt
The Interior Design Department at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at AAU organized an educational field visit to Salt City, Jordan, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. The visit was part of the course "History of Islamic Interior Design and Its Theories," with the participation of students and under the supervision of Dr. Samar Abu Saleh, a faculty member, and Engineer Manar Abu Najma from the Interior Design Department.
The visit included a tour of Salt's Old Market, followed by a trip to the Salt Archaeological Museum, where students explored a variety of historical artifacts spanning multiple eras. This provided them with a unique opportunity to link the theoretical concepts they had studied to tangible urban environments.
The students also learned about the dolmen stone structures from prehistoric times and explored the relationship between ancient humans and their surrounding nature. The visit deepened their understanding of the cultural and environmental aspects of this heritage. The purpose of the visit was to study the architectural and historical features of Salt, shedding light on the Islamic, Byzantine, and Ottoman influences embedded in its urban fabric. This helped raise students' awareness of the significance of architectural identity and its role in shaping the interior environments of buildings throughout history.
