Intellectual seminar on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People
Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Maher Saleem, President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, and within the extracurricular activities, a seminar was organized in cooperation with the Jordanian Writers Association on Solidarity with the Palestinian People in Nizar Qabbani Auditorium. Dr. Maher Saleem gave a speech in which he welcomed the attendees and expressed his thanks to Palestine Committee members on the Jordanian Writers Association for their efforts in supporting the Palestinian cause. Dr. Saleem pointed out that commemorating this Day embodies the University's vision and mission, which aim to foster this generation affiliation to the nation and its just causes and raise its awareness of the surrounding crucial issues. In his speech, Dr. Saleem outlined the efforts of the Hashemites and Jordan in defending the Palestinian cause and protecting the holy sites. The seminar was moderated by Dr. Ribhi Halloum of Palestine Committee of the Association. Among the speakers in the seminar were Dr. Ali Mahaftha who addressed the national dimension of the Palestinian cause, stressing that it is an Arab cause. Dr. Hosni Shayab talked about the partition resolution, pointing out the reasons for this decision and its consequences for the Palestinian people. Dr Azmi Mansur indicated that solidarity with the Palestinian people should not be celebrated for few days to commemorate the martyrs only. Indeed, solidarity is exhibited through faithfulness and following the martyrs steps and approach, he noted. Mr. Nawaf Al-Zour of Palestine Committee of the Association tackled the current developments in the Palestinian Council. Dr. Mustafa Yassin presented a graphic demonstration entitled “Jerusalemite Thoughts and Tears”. He also pointed out to Jerusalem and Israeli settlement activity there. A photo presentation and documentary film on the Palestinian cities and the barriers that hinder Palestinian movement were featured. At the end of the meeting, which was attended by a large gathering of interested people, representatives of the Palestinian embassy, members of Palestine Committee of the Writers Association, faculty members, and administrators at the University, Prof. Dr. Maher Saleem presented the University shield to the Chairman of the Writers' Association.
