Induction Meeting of King Abdullah II Fund for Development in Al-Ahliyya Amman University
Dr. Sadeq Hamid, President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, received in his office HE Mr. Qais Qatamin, Director of King Abdullah II Fund for Development, where they discussed aspects of cooperation with regard to student activities, promoting the concept of volunteerism among the students of Jordanian universities, and urging students to participate in community service activities. The projects undertaken by the University were discussed during the meeting. Mr. Qatamin expressed his full readiness to support student projects and cooperate with the University. In his speech at the inaugurating ceremony of launching the Volunteer Teams Project (Knowledge Stations), Mr. Qatamin referred to the Royal Decree establishing King Abdullah II Fund in 2001 as a civil organization that aims to stimulate the development of human resources and the establishment of pioneer projects in order to improve the standard of living of citizens. Mr. Qatamin addressed career counseling offices which were established in 2003. Under this initiative, 25 offices were established in various public and private universities. The Career Counseling Office aims to qualify students to enter the labor market through training programs and providing them with opportunities to gain practical experience during the years of their study. These programs include travel support program, scientific research program support, roots program, a voluntary program in the field of agriculture, and a program to promote democracy in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (Democratic Empowerment Program). At the end of his speech, Mr. Qatamin emphasized the outstanding role of Al-Ahliyya Amman University in supporting volunteer work.Dr. Sadek Hamid delivered a speech in which he pointed out that since the inception of Al-Ahliyya Amman University; it has been keen on excellence in achieving its mission. The University provides diverse and distinct academic programs that are designed to meet the needs of the local and Arab community for highly qualified and trained competencies, he noted. Dr. Hamid added that the University now offers more than 30 academic programs at the undergraduate level and seven academic programs at the graduate level. He noted that the University makes great efforts to achieve excellence in its infrastructure to serve its academic programs. These efforts culminated in the establishment of Dr. Ahmed Hourani e-Learning Center, which provides all requirements of improving the educational process, in addition to the Hearing and Speech Centre, and Cisco Networking Academy, within the University efforts to enable graduates to compete effectively in the labor market through the latest and highest levels of training and qualification, he added. Dr. Hamid asserted the University support for scientific research and community service activities. The University has organized and supported many Arab and international scientific conferences and this meeting confirms the support for young people in compliance with the orientations of His Majesty King Abdullah II.Dr. Sana Abdo gave a lecture on volunteer work, the importance of student participation in volunteer work, and the concept of happiness. Dr. Abdu is a specialist in management and humanities issues, particularly life skills. She is the first Jordanian Arab woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest.On the sidelines of the meeting, Mr. Qais Qatamin and Dr. Sadeq Hamid inaugurated Train Knowledge Exhibition in the presence of a large number of the University students. The exhibition presented entrepreneurship courses and skills to students with participation by various companies, including Akhtabout Company, Darebni TV Foundation, Smart Solution Academy, XO initiative, All Jordan Youth Commission, Loyac Organization, Roots Initiative, Democratic Empowerment Organization, Jordanian Women s Fund and Inzaj Foundation. At the end of the meeting, Dr. Hamid presented memorial shield to Mr. Qatamin and certificates of appreciation to the supporting companies.
