HRH Princess Basma sponsors the celebration of the Arab Media Woman Day in Al-Ahliyya Amman University
Under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Talal, the Social Service Center in Al-Ahliyya Amman University, in collaboration with the Arab Women Media Center, held a celebration on the occasion of the Arab Media Woman Day under the slogan “Towards Women Non-Violent Mental Health”. The celebration was attended by a number of prominent figures in the Jordanian society, including former ministers and dignitaries, as well as faculty and administrative staff in the University and a large crowd of students. HRH Princess Basma bint Talal said that the phenomenon of violence against women in all its forms is spread all over the world. While the physical and health effects of violence can be treated, psychological violence cannot be confined or treated since it entails insult, degrades the value and dignity of the spouse, leads to feeling of shame, frustration, depression, humiliation, isolation, and loss of self-confidence. This creates profound negative impact not only on women, but rather on the present and future of all members of the family and society as a whole. HRH Prince Basma noted, during her participation in the celebration of the Arab Media Woman Day, organized by the Social Work Centre at Al-Ahliyya Amman University and the Arab Women Media Center under the title “Towards Women Non-Violent Mental Health”, that it is the right of every human being to lead a life that is free of diseases, complexities, and psychiatric disorders. She noted that women mental health contributes to creating appropriate living conditions and the right environment to support the mental health of all family members. This enables family members to adopt healthy physical, mental, and psychological lifestyles. Prof. Dr. Maher Saleem, President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, underscored the importance of the close ties between media and human rights of both men and women. He pointed out that media is the optimum means to address women issues in the various social, cultural, and creative fields. Dr. Saleem praised the role of the Arab media women who undertook the responsibility of reform and improving society's perception of women, advocacy of women rights, and establishing a new understanding that embraces the components of women psychological and community welfare. The director of Social Work Center of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, Dr. Esmat Huso, noted that the importance of mental health of women parallels renewable life of women and the changing role of women in modern society. It is no longer permissible to compare women's health without the identification and integration of the psychological aspect in the recognition of rights, policy-making, and provision of various services. The Director of the Arab Women Media Center, Mahasin Imam, said that “The Jordanian media woman is more efficient and diligent than other media women in terms of challenging conditions, despite the lack of capabilities and physical social support.” On the sidelines of the ceremony, Princess Basma honored a number of supporters of women's rights and handed shields over to Dr. Dalal Alami, Dr. Hala Hammad, Dr. Najwa Aref, Brigadier Mohammed Al-Zubi, Dr. Momen Hadidi, and Dr. Mohammed Hadidi. President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, Dr. Maher Saleem, presented the University Shield to Her Royal Highness Princess Basma.
