On Sunday 15-8-2021, the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutions, in cooperation with Al-Ahliyya Amman University, organized a workshop attended by presidents of public universities and the Regional Director of the Quacquarelli Symonds Foundation, Dr. Ashwin Fernandez. The workshop aimed to introduce the standards of international QS classifications which are published annually in both regional and international formats.During the workshop, the importance of QS classification, which aims to raise the level of international standards for universities, was discussed. It is concerned with the scientific level of universities and colleges and strengthening their role in scientific research, as well as enhancing employers' confidence in graduate students. The top 500 universities in the world are selected according to several criteria. The QS representative presented these criteria, which are based on the academic reputation of the university. Accordingly, professional evaluation of a university’s level from around the world receives 40%, the reputation of the university among employers, which refers to the confidence of employers in students graduating from that university, receives 15%, the ratio of faculty members to university students receives 20%, citation of research from the university receives 20%, and percentage of foreign faculty members receives 5%. The QS representative pointed out that what distinguishes this classification is the analysis of the components of universities, the assessment of the level of education offered by classified universities, the quality of their basic and applied research, the description of the capabilities of their graduates in the graduate and postgraduate educational levels, in addition to its international rank. These international workshops, organized by the Commission, are part of the ongoing pursuit of its vision of bringing higher education institutions to a high level of global competitiveness.
