Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al-Hussein inaugurates Hearing Health and Balance Conference held at Al-Ahliyya Amman University

Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al-Hussein inaugurated the activities of the Second Arab Hearing Health and Balance Conference, which spanned over three days starting on Tuesday, 27/5/2014. The Conference was organized by Al-Ahliyya Amman University and the Arab Academy for Hearing and Balance, in collaboration with the German Lubeck University. The conference was held in the Mövenpick Hotel Dead Sea, in the presence of the Minister of Health, Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Daifallah Lozi, and Chairman of the Arab Academy for Hearing and Balance, Dr. Khalid Abdul Hadi, with the participation of 144 specialists from Arab and foreign countries. During the conference, 55 working papers were discussed, including ten local papers submitted by the Jordanian universities, the Ministry of Health, the Royal Medical Services, and the private sector. The papers addressed ear and hearing diseases, dizziness, unbalance, diagnosis and treatment of hearing disorders, cochlear implant, middle ear, hearing aid and installation, mold manufacturing, diagnosis and treatment of children hearing impairment, and diagnosis and treatment of tinnitus.Prof. Dr. Sadeq Hamed, President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, pointed out in his speech that 10% of the world's population suffer from hearing impairment. In order to address this issue, the University has established the Hearing and Speech Center since 2003, aiming to serve all sectors of the local and national community and train the students of the Department of Hearing and Speech of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University. Dr. Hamed stressed that Al-Ahliyya Amman University Hearing and Speech Centre provides fully free services, including evaluation of speech and language disorders, conducting therapy sessions, hearing screening, evaluation of hearing impairment in all its forms, and manufacturing medical earpiece molds. The specialized clinics at the Center include a group of experts and specialists in the Kingdom in this area and a set of advanced equipment, which qualify these centers for the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of speech and language disorders, and all types of hearing and balance impairment.During the conference, six workshops were held on health education and future development of medical education principles, cochlear implant, cochlear implant programming, classroom hearing aid, balance examination, and palsy hearing screening. A medical exhibition was also hosted in which several local and international companies and Arab and foreign universities participated. On the sidelines of the conference, a number of agreements on scientific collaboration and research were signed between the Al-Ahliyya Amman University, U.S. Saless University, the Arab Academy for Hearing and Balance, and the British Academy of Hearing and Balance. It was agreed to develop Clinical Doctor Hearing and Balance Program at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, which would be the first of its kind in the Arab world. At the end of the opening ceremony, Dr. Abdul Hadi delivered a memorial shield to HRH Princess Muna Al Hussein, President of the Conference. The Secretary General of the Academy, Dr. Mohammad Al-Masry delivered shields to Dr. Hamed, President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, Dr Hayasat, Minister of Health, and to the Director of Medical Services, which was received by his delegate, Brigadier Dr. Mohammed Hiari.
