Harvard Appoints Professor Anas Rateb Al-Saud, Vice President of AAU, as a Global Higher Education Innovation Fellow

Harvard University has appointed Professor Anas Rateb Al-Saud, Vice President of Amman Arab University (AAU), as a Global Higher Education Innovation Fellow, effective September 16, 2024. This prestigious appointment is affiliated with the Technology and Entrepreneurship Center (TECH) at the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University. TECH brings together some of the world’s foremost thought leaders on innovation and entrepreneurship. In this role, Professor Al-Saud will lead a research project titled “Enhancing Innovation in Multidisciplinary Research in the Field of Artificial Intelligence in the Arab World: Challenges and Opportunities.” The outcomes of this project will be a collaborative effort between Al-Ahliyya Amman University and Harvard University. Professor Al-Saud holds the rank of professor in informatics (electronic systems) and has earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems from the University of Jordan (2006), a Master’s degree in IT Management from the University of Salford, UK (2007), and a Ph.D. in Informatics from the University of Reading, UK (2012). He began his career as an administrator in the Administrative Affairs Department of the Royal Hashemite Court before joining our AAU in 2012. Since then, he has held a variety of administrative roles, including Head of the Business, E-Commerce, and Management Information Systems Departments, Dean of Student Affairs, Director of Accreditation, Director of the Business Incubator, Director of the Innovation and Excellence Center, Director of the Global Engagement Center, and Assistant to the President for Accreditation and International Ranking Affairs. Since 2022, he has served as Vice President for International Relations and Quality, as well as Director of Al-Hourani Center for Applied Scientific Research. A recognized expert in international accreditation and university rankings, Professor Al-Saud has been a member of the advisory board for the Times Higher Education ranking since 2022 and a member of the advisory board for the Jordanian-American Higher Education Network (LINKS) since 2024. He has also served on the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Board at the University of Jordan since 2022. Professor Al-Saud has been a visiting professor at several international universities, most recently at Management and Science University (MSU) in Malaysia. With over 70 peer-reviewed research papers published in top international journals indexed by Scopus, he has received numerous awards on local, regional, and global levels. Outside of academia, Professor Al-Saud has worked as an executive director for several startups in Jordan and is a board member of Alefredo Books, a Jordanian success story that has grown into the largest Arabic platform for selling used books and digital educational summaries. He is also committed to supporting startups that drive innovation and entrepreneurship across Jordan and the Arab world.
