Global Gold Award for Al-Jaafari in Karate at the World Games
National team player and AAU student Mohammad Al-Jaafari achieved a historic milestone by winning the gold medal in karate at the World Games, held in Chengdu, China.
Al-Jaafari secured Jordan’s second medal in the tournament, following the bronze medal won by his teammate Abdulrahman Al-Masatfa in the under 67 kg weight category.
Al-Jaafari advanced confidently, topping his group in the preliminary round with a sweeping 8-0 victory over Croatia’s Ivan Kvesić, a 9-2 win over the Netherlands’ Brian Timmermans, and a 2-2 draw with Greece’s Mastrogiannis Konstantinos.
In the semifinals, Al-Jaafari defeated Japan’s Shimada Rikyuto with a score of 6-1, before sealing his gold medal triumph in the final by again overcoming Kvesić, this time 4-0, to claim the title.
It is worth noting that the karate competitions at the World Games featured the top 8 athletes in the world in each weight category, based on their recent World Championship performances and global rankings, making Al-Jaafari’s achievement a source of pride for both Jordan and Al-Ahliyya Amman University.
