Free Medical Day at Al-Ahliyya Amman University
Under the patronage of Dr. Khalid Hiyari, Director of Balqa Health Department, on Wednesday, 23/4/2014, Al-Ahliyya Amman University organized a free Medical Day to serve the local community. Prof. Inam Khalaf, Vice President of the University, welcomed the attendees. In her speech at the opening ceremony, Dr. Khalaf noted that she is thrilled at holding this Medical Day, which is in line with the University belief in the importance of community service, as an integral part of the goals and mission of the University. The University exerts considerable efforts to improve the health conditions of the members of the community by organizing activities and programs that meet the needs of citizens. These activities aim to provide medical care and treatment and to make sound health and behavioral changes. Dr. Khalaf stressed that the role of the University and its health faculties is to increase health awareness among the various segments of the community. The Medical Day provides health, medical, and therapeutic care, and raises health awareness among the community members through an integrated medical, health, nursing, pharmaceutical and management staff in various medical disciplines, such as internal medicine, endocrinology, pediatrics, general surgery, dermatology, and family medicine. The Medical Day also features lab and vision examinations, with an effective participation by the public and private sectors, faculty staff, students, and volunteers from various health faculties at the University. Free basic and specialized treatments are contributed by drug companies and stores during this day.Dr. Khaled Hiari asserted deep cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the University in the field of education and community service. Dr. Hiari added that such medical days provide an opportunity to convince people to adopt healthy practices in their lives, use the health services provided to them wisely, change the behavior of individuals, families and the community at large in order to maintain and promote health. The Ministry is concerned with boosting cooperation with local communities, which will allow early detection and treatment of diabetes, obesity, blood pressure, and heart diseases.Dr. Khalaf, in the presence of Dr. Hiari and Eng. Maram Daradkeh, health promotion supervisor, and deans of the University, inaugurated the free Medical Day, which was held in the premises of the Medical Services Department. The officers toured the companies, warehouses, examination centers, and clinics. Throughout the day, the University received the local community members and provided them with medical services and examinations, each according to their respective condition. In addition, a blood donation campaign was organized, in collaboration with the National Blood Bank. Scouts from the Islamic School of Balqa presented a theatrical performance on health malpractices adopted by members of the community and how to overcome these practices.
