Faculty of Architecture and Design Organizes Training Workshop on Packaging Concepts

As part of its ongoing series of academic sessions, the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Al-Ahliyya Amman University organized a training workshop titled “From Idea to Package: The Design Journey in the World of Packaging” for students from the Multimedia and Graphic Design Department. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the National Center for Packaging “JoPack,” with the attendance of Dr. Faten Al-Jazzar, faculty member in the department. The aim of the workshop was to provide students with essential concepts and practical applications in this vital field. Eng. Youssef Atieh, Director of JoPack, and Eng. Sara Hdaib introduced the center and highlighted its pioneering role in the development of the packaging industry. The workshop addressed the concept and importance of packaging as a fundamental step in product protection and ensuring it reaches consumers in optimal condition. It included an introduction to different packaging materials such as paper, plastic, metal, and glass, with a review of each material’s properties and ideal uses. The speakers also discussed the standards to be considered when selecting appropriate packaging, focusing on sustainability and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, the workshop covered the importance of product labeling in conveying key information to consumers in an accurate and appealing way. As packaging serves as an effective marketing tool, the workshop emphasized how creative design can enhance product value and attract a broader customer base—opening promising career paths for students in the job market. Real-life examples of successful student projects were presented, showcasing how the skills gained in this session prepare students for employment with local and international packaging and industrial design companies. The workshop concluded with an introduction to the Arab StarPack 2025 competition, a regional platform showcasing the best Arab packaging designs. Students were encouraged to participate and present their innovations before international judging panels and leading companies—an opportunity that could boost their employability and expand their professional networks. This workshop aligns with the faculty’s commitment to enriching the practical side of its academic curriculum and connecting it with market needs, thereby enhancing students’ skills and preparing them for smooth integration into real-world work environments in design, marketing, and production sectors.
