Empowering Community Health: AAU's Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences Hosts Volunteering Day at National Jordanian Women's Committees Association in Al Balqa
Under the theme "The Role of Volunteer Work in Enhancing Community Unity and Creating a Cultured Environment," our AAU's Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences hosted an open volunteering day on Thursday, May 9, 2024. The event engaged faculty, administrative staff, and students from all departments, including Physical Therapy, Optometry, Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, Cosmetology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Biopharmaceutical Technology, and Basic Medical Sciences.
The opening session featured welcoming remarks by the Dean of the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences, presentations of certificates of appreciation, and commemorative photos. The Dean highlighted the college's specialties and available services, underscoring the significance of dedication and volunteerism in the lives of allied healthcare professionals.
Throughout the day, participants attended lectures covering various topics such as stress management, hypertension, skincare, sun protection, physical therapy for breast cancer patients, the microbiome, early detection and intervention for developmental speech and language disorders, tinnitus disorders, common household practices, personal hygiene for children and adolescents, sudden hearing loss, and physical therapy for lower back pain.
Informative stations were set up to introduce general concepts of physical therapy, the audiology profession, speech-language disorders, and the services offered by the Hearing and Speech Center at Amman University's campus. Faculty specialists provided consultations and conducted examinations, including physical therapy sessions for children, assessments for bone and joint issues, elderly care, posture problems, distribution of free eye drops and glasses, blood pressure checks, free laboratory tests, audiological assessments (ear examination, middle ear function tests, audiometry), and speech-language evaluations.
This initiative benefited a significant number of local community members who appreciated the educational opportunities and free consultations and examinations provided by the university. It highlights the importance of organizing such activities in various locations to further community outreach and engagement.
