Dr. Saleem inaugurates the Fifth Scientific Day of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences at Al-Ahliyya Amman University

As part of Al-Ahliyya Amman University and its administration efforts, which seek to achieve its vision to become a leading university not only in Jordan, but also in the region, and on the basis of its objectives related to attracting multicultural student body that fosters acquaintance, communication and understanding between different cultures, attracting students from outside the Arab world to teach them Arabic language and the Arab and Islamic culture, and presenting Jordan as a country of civilization, culture and science, a delegation from Al-Ahliyya Amman University, headed by Prof. Dr. Maher Saleem, President of the University, and Dr . Maher Shorbaji, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Director of Public and Cultural Relations in the University, headed to the United States on a business visit during the period 20-30/4/2010, in which the delegation visited several universities and educational institutions. The top priority of the visit was to assign a cooperation agreement between Al-Ahliyya Amman University and the International Studies Abroad Foundation in Austin, Texas in the United States. This Foundation is concerned with seconding students from American universities to universities abroad the United States, during which students can study for one or more semesters in these universities. The credit hours completed by the student are then transferred to his credit hours at his original university. The Agreement includes terms that allow students from American universities to choose from six hundred courses offered at the University in English, including a program for Arabic language to non-native speakers courses. A comparative study has been conducted on the courses offered by the University and those available in U.S. universities that deal with this Foundation. The study showed that there is considerable compatibility between the University courses and the corresponding courses in the American universities. Similarly, Al-Ahliyya Amman University students can study one or more courses in the American universities to be calculated within their credit hours according to the applicable instructions of the University. Under this Agreement, the University will provide an appropriate environment for students who enroll in its programs, and will organize tours to introduce them to tourist attractions and archaeological sites in Jordan, and to acquaint students with the various aspects of the local culture. This will help brighten the Arab image in the eyes of the West, and will introduce U.S. students to new aspects about the Arab people. The President of the University made a presentation about the University, its environment and the constituent elements of the modern University environment. Dr. Saleem demonstrated the employment of modern technologies in an integrated educational environment that focuses on students as the centre of the teaching and learning process. He also provided an overview of Jordan, its location, nature and the most important advantages. Subsequently, the agreement was signed for the University by its President Prof. Dr. Maher Saleem and for the Foundation by Dr. Gustavo Ertaza. During the visit, the delegation visited several universities in different states. Dr. Maher Saleem met Prof. Larry Bill, Head of the International Education Office, Professor Mary Dando, Head of the Overseas Study Program at the University of Colorado, Professor Michael Breed, Chairman of the Department of Biology, and Professor Sherry Snyder, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University. Dr. Saleem also met Professor Carroll, Head of Overseas Education, Professor Maha Foster, Head of Arabic Language Department, Professor Ronald Deleuze, Professor Martin of the Faculty of Engineering at the US University of Denver in the State of Colorado, Professor Erika Sjulnz, Head of Overseas Study Program, Dr. Frank Heges, Head of International Programs Office and Professor Tayyip Al-Heiri, Head of Middle East Studies at the University of Massachusetts. During the visit to the U.S. universities, Dr. Maher Saleem made a presentation about the University, its establishment, development, faculties, and programs, and modern technologies provided by the University to assist the students in the learning process. Dr. Saleem addressed the relationship of the University with the local community, and the services offered by the University. Dr. Saleem noted that hearing and speech clinics have been opened for the local community to detect hearing and speech disabilities for free, in addition to other centers that have been established, such as the Social Service Center and the e-Learning Centre. The President of the University met some students of the American universities and talked to them about the University and the programs in which they can be enrolled.
