Dr. Maher Al-Hourani the Chairman of the AAU Board of Directors & Prof. Sari Hamdan the President of AAU Open the “Mahmoud Darwish” Theater in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in the (8/11/208)
The AAU President, Prof. Sari Hamdan opened the “Mahmoud Darwish” Theater in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The opening was attended by Dr. Maher Al-Hourani the Chairman of the AAU Board of Directors on Thursday, 8/11/2018. This event was also attended by the deans, heads of departments, academic & administrative staffs and a large number of invitees. Then, the AAU President cut the opening ribbon of the theater and the ceremony was commenced with the Royal Anthem. Dr. Fidaa Ghunaim, the ceremony moderator welcomed the guests and attendance and explained that the Theater was named Mahmoud Darwish in honor of the Palestinian Arab poet, whose tenth anniversary of his departure is marked today. The AAU President, Prof. Sari Hamdan, also noted in his speech the importance of building scientific theaters in universities for the sake of holding conferences and symposiums. The president added that Darwish deserves to be commemorated on the AAU land. After that, Dr. Joseph Bawalsa, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, talked about the Theater since it was an idea until it became reality and thanked all those who contributed to this project.In the ceremony, a video designed by Engineer Anan Kanani was displayed about the poet Mahmoud Darwish and his poetry. Then, Dr. Faiha Abdel Hadi and Dr. Hayat Haweeq presented two personal testimonies associated with Drawish.At the end of the event, all participants and the Theater project contributors were honored. The opening was followed by a scientific symposium on the works of Darwish, with the participation of Prof. Mohammed Obaid, Prof. Salam Mahadin, Dr. Hayat Haweeq Attiah, Dr. Faiha Abdul Hadi and Dr. Feda Ghuneim.
