Dr. Karim Fadl as Keynote Speaker in a Panel Discussion: The Impact of Hate Speech on the Electoral Democratic Process in Libya

Dr. Karim Fadl Al-Faraji, a faculty member in the Department of Cinematic, Television, and Theaterical Design at the Faculty of Architecture and Design, AAU, participated in a panel discussion titled "The Impact of Hate Speech on the Electoral Democratic Process" organized by the Euro-Mediterranean Media Union and the National Campaign for Election Support in Libya. The event took place on Saturday, July 20, 2024, via Zoom. Dr. Al-Faraji was the keynote speaker at the discussion, where he began by providing an analytical review of the democratic crisis and its implications on the electoral process under the current political conditions in Libya. He highlighted the role of media across its various channels—television, radio, print and electronic journalism, and social media platforms—in raising public awareness about the electoral process. He stressed the importance of adhering to professional standards and the principles of responsibility outlined by international legislations, notably the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and media work charters. The panel was moderated by Professor Jamal Abdel Moneim Al-Zawi, Chairman of the National Campaign for Election Support in Libya, and featured a selection of academics and experts specialized in media affairs. The discussion facilitated extensive debates, shedding light on the state of democratic experience in Libya under the current circumstances. This participation aligns with the university’s commitment to engaging with regional and international bodies concerned with political, media, artistic, and cultural matters, consistent with its vision, policies, and core values.
