Discussing Ways of Cooperation between AAU and Fuheis Municipality

The Mayor of Fuheis Municipality, Engineer Jamal Hattar accompanied by a delegation visited AAU and met with Prof. Sadeq Hamed, AAU President. In this meeting, the Mayor called upon municipal councils in municipalities to benefit from the expertise and capabilities available in Jordanian Universities. He also suggested carrying out studies and conducting applied scientific research to develop the municipal work system and to raise the services level offered by these municipalities. The delegation included His Excellency, Deputy Prof. Fawzi Al-Tua’yme, Miss Alida Imda’een, Director of the House of Heritage and Arts Association, Engineer Majed Ziyadat, the Director of the Municipality and Mr. Ramzi Samawi, the Director of Finance of the House of Heritage and Arts Municipality. In his turn, the AAU President supported the idea of cooperation and stressed the importance of benefiting from university expertise and competencies to upgrade municipality services and to solve problems related to these services. He also emphasized that the university is ready to cooperate with Fuheis Municipality in all available areas. Meanwhile, his Excellency, Prof. Fawzi Al-Tua’yma expressed his pride in this distinguished scientific edifice where he was honored of being employed in it for many years. He also praised the role of the Parliament Council in introducing legislations which organize the municipal work and bring benefits the citizens and the state alike. At the end of the meeting, the two parties agreed to establish mechanisms and foundations for the suggested joint cooperation projects between them. These projects include for example the following: - Considering Fuheis as a model for preparing studies and researches concerning energy, garbage recycle and managing electronic government etc… and the possibility of applying them in reality. - Studying the organizational reality of the city.- Enabling and Training the municipal cadre.- Reviving and activating the cultural and heritage roles of the old town. - Finding solutions for traffic jams especially the area between Fuheis Circle (Shaker Circle) to the Baccalaureate School.- Enhancing interaction between the students of the university and the Fuheis local community through local community required courses.- Considering Fuheis city as the city of culture for 2019.- Providing possible scholarships for Fuheis top students who are financially deprived in accordance with criteria and conditions to be agreed up on later. - Establishing a joint public park between AAU and the Municipality and conducting other projects to be agreed on later. To achieve these goals, the two parties agreed to set up a joint committee to follow up cooperation between the two parties chaired by Dr. Leena Shabeeb, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the membership of AAU Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Naser Abu Anza of the Faculty of Architecture and Design in addition to Engineer Majed Ziyadat along with Miss Alida Imda’een representatives of the organization division in the Municipality. At the end, the Mayor of Fuheis and the accompanied delegation thanked the AAU President and the deans of faculties for their cooperation and warm welcome. Also, Mr. Omar Imda’een, member of the consultation council in the city, praised the successful arrangement of this event. Finally, the Director of the House of Heritage and Arts Association handed the AAU President shield of the association as a token for her appreciation of this deeply rooted scientific edifice and wished the University more development and progress.
