Closing of the Second Conference for Arab Sign Language Interpreters at AAU

The second "Arab Sign Language Interpreters Conference" (Reality and Aspiration) concluded last weekend at AAU, under the patronage of Her Excellency Asia Yaghi. The event, organized by the Jordanian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (Jusoor) in collaboration with AAU, the Arab Association of Sign Language Interpreters (Sila), and the World Association of Sign Language Interpreters (WASLI), included important recommendations addressing the diverse challenges faced by sign language interpreters globally. On behalf of the university's president, Professor Sari Hamdan, the Dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences, Professor Mohamed Mubaidin, presented a university shield to His Excellency Abdullah Hamidan, Secretary-General of the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, and Her Excellency Asia Yaghi, Member of the Jordanian Senate and President of the "I Am Human" Association for the Rights of People with Disabilities. Professor Mubaidin also received a commemorative shield from the President of Jusoor Association. The first day of the conference featured several scientific sessions, including a paper presented by Dr. Anan Abu Mariam from the Faculty of Educational Sciences, who is also a member of the International Sign Language Interpreters Association, discussing "Challenges of Sign Language Interpreters in the Arab World." This paper covered aspects of sign language, strategies, translation techniques, and contemporary challenges. The conference also included papers from distinguished researchers from Jordan and across the Arab world, with active participation from Kuwait, Palestine, the UAE, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Turkey. The event was praised for its excellent organization, with a number of AAU students taking part in the organizing committee, contributing to the conference's success. The conference concluded with the presentation of recommendations, along with certificates of participation and commemorative shields for students, organizers, and members of the scientific and advisory committees.
