Awareness lecture about Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs).

Faculty of Nursing conducted an online lecture about Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs). Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs) are easily transmitted during sexual contact, often show no symptoms, and are on the rise. Using condoms every time will help protect you and your partner from STIs. With many STIs not having symptoms, regular testing (every 6-12 months) is an important part of a healthy and confident sex life said Dr. Hanan Al-Zein. Number of female Students, staff have participated and get benefitted from the lecture. A sexually transmitted infection (STI) is an infection that's spread through sexual contact. This includes skin-to-skin contact. In general, STIs are preventable. Almost 20 million new STI cases are diagnosed each year in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). STI's affect men and women of all backgrounds and economic levels. They are most prevalent among teenagers and young adults. Nearly 50% of all STI's occur in people between the ages of 15 and 24. Usually STI's result in no symptoms. This is especially true in women. If symptoms develop, they may be confused with other diseases. An infected asymptomatic person can give their infection to their sexual partners (e.g., chlamydial infection, genital herpes, human papillomavirus infections, HIV). Health problems caused by STI's tend to be more severe and more frequent for women than for men. As a result, many women do not seek care until serious problems develop.
