Al-Salt Governorate Honors the Late Dr. Ahmad Al-Hourani, the AAU Founder

Everything was silent in the morning of 11 / 1/ 2016, but grief moaning was reigning over the AAU corridors and Al-Salt hills for the loss of the late Dr. Ahmed Hourani, the founder of the University. The late was loyal to Al-Salt and its people and in turn Al-Salat responded with similar loyalty….. It is the habitat for all national figures whose names have been engraved on the rock of achievement and giving. On this occasion, and on the third anniversary of the departure of the late Dr. Ahmed Hourani, an elite group of dignitaries from Jordan and Al-Salt city met at the Jalaad Social Forum on Saturday evening, 23/2/2019. They were led by the former Minister, Senator Sami Qamwa and the Mayor of Greater Al-Salt Municipality, Engineer Khalid Al-Khashman and accompanied by a number of Al-Salt dignitaries, academics and educators. The meeting was also attended by personalities who accompanied the march of the economist and the late academic Dr. Ahmed Al-Hourani in his career which was full of giving and economic and educational projects that enriched the national economy. At the forefront of these projects is the first private Jordanian university, in Jordan and the region, Al-Ahliyya Amman University. It is considered one of the leading universities in Jordan in terms of its educational level and its academic partnerships with the world's leading universities. It has the highest ratings locally, regionally and internationally and it is the first destination for the Arab expatriate students due to its reputation in the field of higher education in the Arab world.The grand honoring of the late Al-Hourani took place in Jalaad Social Forum, The Halls of Dignitaries of Jordan History & Civilization, in the presence of Dr. Maher Ahmad Al-Hourani who carried the banner from his father to complete the march of work, achievement and development. He thus is faithful to the great legacy left by his father; the moral legacy and the march of work, giving and great contributions to support the national economy and the young youth.Engineer Khaled Khalifat opened the honoring ceremony by talking about the march and the virtues of the late Dr. Ahmed Al-Hourani, his struggle and achievements, and the march of his sons on the same road and praised the excellence of AAU. After that, a number of interventions and speeches were presented, praising the virtues of the late and his march and the achievements of AAU as well. They also praised the march of Dr. Maher Hourani, who follows the footsteps of his father in achieving and giving. Some of these speeches were the speeches of the following dignitaries: His Excellency, Senator Sami Qamwa, Al Basha Fawzi Al Maaitah, Engineer Khaled Al Khashman, the Mayor of Al-Salt Greater Municipality, journalist Mahmoud Qutishat, Prof. Yousef Al-Abbadi, the Dean of the AAU Faculty of Law, Mr. Yahia Arabiyat (on behalf of the representatives of the associations) and Al-zakat committees supported by the University and Mr. Ahmed Al-Anbousi, the AAU Media Advisor. Engineer Khalid Al-Khashman, the Mayor of Al-Salt Greater Municipality, thanked AAU and Dr. Maher Al-Hourani for their great support to Al-Salt and Al-Salt Sports Club and praised the progress and development of the University.Al-Basha Fawzi Al-Maaytah was one of the attendees who were close to the late Al-Hourani and who lived his dreams and witnessed their realization on the ground. He talked about the nature of his relation with the late and praised his virtues and good reputation. His Excellency Senator Sami Qamwa, the companion trail of the late generation, talked in his beautiful style about the memories he had with the late especially regarding investment and the University establishment and how the late was always make good decisions despite the opposition and fear of some of his friends of failure. In his speech, Dr. Maher Al-Hourani, the Chairman of the AAU Board of Directors thanked the dignitaries, personalities and sons of Al-Salt city and the Jalaad Social Forum and stressed his pride in Al-Salt city and Al- Balqa governorate in general. He also stressed that the city of Al-Salt was the beloved city of the late and added that when the late established the University he insisted to have it on the road to Al-Salt to be close to the beloved Palestine. The city of Al-Salt also has a major role in the renaissance and the march of Jordan at various levels.Dr. Maher also stressed that he considers himself one of Al-Salt sons and the people of Al-Balqa governorate. He also expressed his pride to the entire governorates of Jordan and its march under the Hashemite leadership, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein. He hoped that Jordan comes out of its economic crises and may Allah preserve the country’s security and safety. Then, His Excellency Senator Sami Qamwa handed the honorary shield to the soul of the late Dr. Ahmed Al-Hourani to his son Dr. Maher Al-Hourani. Another honorary shield was handed to Dr. Maher for his efforts and achievements. Qamwa also presented an honorary shield to Mr. Muhammad Saleh Al-Hourani, the Chairman of the AAU Board of Trustees which was received on his behalf by Dr. Sulaiman Al-Luzi, the Vice President. An honorary shield was handed to Mr. Ahmed Al-Anbousi, the AAU Media Advisor for His Excellency Abdulkarim Al-Kabariti, friend of the late and “the former Chairman of the AAU Board of Trustees”.
