Al-Ahliyya Amman University participates in the “9th International Conference on Workplace Bullying and Harassment” Conference with a research paper presented by Dr. Imad Al-Mualla
Dr. Imad Al Mualla of the Faculty of Administrative & Financial Sciences at Al-Ahliyya Amman University participated in the 9th International Conference “Workplace Bullying and Harassment – For Enhancement of Dignity and Justice at the Workplace”, which was held in Milan, Italy. Dr. Mualla, during the conference sessions, organized by the International Society for Bullying and Harassment in the Workplace, in collaboration with the Italian University of Milan, presented a paper entitled “Workplace Bullying in the Middle East: A Case Study on Nurses in Jordan”. The paper shows that nurses working in government hospitals experience high levels of bullying and that there is a relationship between the position conflict and ambiguity, nurse work pressure, the extent of control over their jobs on one hand, and undergoing this negative behavior of bullying on the other. The study also demonstrates that the surveyed nurses have been exposed to these negative behaviors by patient escorts in the first place and then by the doctors. The study found that personality traits affect the extent of influence by bullying, which is considered one of the most dangerous behaviors in the workplace and negatively affects the performance of the employees and their mental and physical health, as well as the performance of organizations and the relationship of workers who are exposed to this behavior with their families and society. The study also recommends the need to adopt scientific methods when selecting workers in the health sector depending on the personality traits that fit the nature of their work. The paper presented by Dr. Imad Al Mualla was the only participation by the Arab countries among more than 50 countries around the world.
